 In addition to the Full Access API licenses, BDP offers developers the use of the Free Access API for betting purposes.

The Free Access API allows developers access to most of the Betfair API, with some limitations on the rate you can call various services.
For private developers, there is no need to sign-up to the Free Access API. Just follow the guidelines below to start developing. Note that you require an active Betfair account to use the Free Access API.

With no charge to access, the Free Access API product provides a subset of the Betfair API and limitations on the number of times you can call an API service per minute.

The Free Access API is ideal for:

  • Developers who want to try out the Betfair API before committing to a full subscription
  • Developers who don't require the full range of API services

    Note - if you wish to access Betfair data for analysis and testing purposes (or at any time that you are not transacting on the exchange) you should make use of the Historical Data services - as listed in the App Directory - rather than the live system.
    • If you are a Software Vendor wanting to use the Free Access API to develop software for customers, you need to obtain a Software Vendor license. Please see the Software Vendor program page for further information.

    Get Started

    The Free Access API is immediately available to anyone with an active Betfair account - there is no need to sign up or have your account 'permissioned'. You're ready to to start developing - all you'll need to know is the following:

    • An active Betfair account
    • The Free Access API productId, which is "82" - use this along with your Betfair credentials in the log-in protocol.
    • The Betfair API WSDL URL's:

  • Sports API (Global Services) WSDL 
  • Sports API 6 (UK Exchange Services) WSDL 
  • Sports API 6 (Aus. Exchange Services) WSDL

    There is no developer support provided to users of the Free Access API product.
    Please use the Developers Forum for support queries.

    Available Services

    The Compare API Products table shows the API services available to the Free Access API product and, for each service, the number of times per minute the service can be called.

    Free Access API customers should be aware of the Betfair transaction and data request fees that apply based on usage. For further information on transaction and data request fees, please see the Betfair Charges page.Please note that the use of the Free Access API implies acceptance of the Free Access API Terms & Conditions.
